Barnarbete!

Child Labour!

Isn’t that why I got kids in the first place, to put them to work? I came up with this brilliant solution to the mind-numbingly boring job of trimming and sanding 72 shell cartridges… ok, I’ll admit it’s not proper child slave labour: you can’t get a young modern Swedish kid to do anything for you without some economic leverage (bribes…). It’s definitely worth it!

On my dads side his grandfather, August Svensson,(changed to Swanson) immigrated to Pennsylvania from Sweden in 1887. I would have to go back and look at were they came from in Sweden. My grandfather was born here but his siblings came over from Sweden. I was reading that the street my dads sister still lives on was a receiving area for incoming Swedish immigrants till they got settled in and got work. Work in the tanneries or on the railroad was common for the men and cleaning jobs for the women. I will have to ask my aunt again for the details. My grandfather didn’t know any English went he went to grade school and was embarrassed so my dad and his sister never learn Swedish latter on in life. Only English was spoken in that house.
Just a bid of info for you.
